SPEAKING & LISTENING TASKS

5 Key Points To Remember

1.It is NOT an interview - a rookie mistake that, unfortunately, most test-takers make is when they impart the speaking exam the gravity of an interview; whereas, a conversation is what it is ! You’re not meeting your prospective boss or your ivy league school principal to be! Stay natural and informal.

2.“speak your heart out”, speak as much as you can. Try to elaborate as much as possible. Focus on phrasing grammatically correct and coherent sentences. You can try practicing in front of a mirror if you are unsure about your posture. Don’t try to copy a particular accent. If you feel skeptical about your voice, accent and want to rectify your mistakes, record each of your practice session and analyze them.

3.Be Confident

4.Reading and listening goes side by side. So, always read along while listening to get the best results. Hearing audio’s and then repeating the words out loud makes you practice.

5. The answers are in the same order as the information you hear. In other words, you will hear the answer to question 2 before question 3 and so on. Therefore, you should always be moving ahead in the questions and never going back on previously missed questions. Save that until the end of the recording. It is also worth noting that in questions where you have to choose an option from a list (e.g. multiple choice or matching items) the possible answers will be mixed up and will not be in chronological order.
